Purple has it.....

Recently I was contacted by a beautiful bride-to-be, who is set to marry her leading man in the upcoming spring, to make her a few sample invites for her upcoming nuptial. She is definitely one of your most laid back bride-to-be who pretty much gave me free reign to create. all she said was "Purple", which happesn to be one of my favorite colors :) I chose to give 3 different styles and format. The first was a simple flat card with a decorative purple/silver Nepalese panel separating the couples names name from the rest of text and embellished with a fabric purple flower and rhinestone accent. The second was a layered flat card on a deep plum backing, blocked with a silver scroll empress paper and embellished with plum ribbon and rhinestone accents. And finally the third card was a white pocket, gatefold card enclosed in a personalized purple/silver/white band. Let's just say that the blushing bride LOVED them all and she's still choosing.

Which one do you like? Find them here at the Shop

Until next time, keep it classy...keep it memorable

Why Choose Custom Invitations

Embroidered Gate-folded Invitation Embroidered Gate-folded Invitation

Like everything for your planned big day I personally believe choosing the right invitation should be well thought out and chosen. It should be given as much thought as the cake, outfits, wedding dress. I mean this  is the first impression you guests will have of your big day, right?

So with this  beautiful thing we have as technology there are endless options of choosing an invitation. All sorts of colors, folds, designs. But which one will stand out to your guests and also be a reflection of you? This is where I recommend choosing custom invitations. It allows you to:

-Be unique and creative……You will have the freedom of creating something that you and your guest have never seen before. Not mass produced and store bought.

-Personalize……..You will have the flexibility of choosing the exact color, the perfect wording, the style and texture of your invite and what we specialize in here at EMD, the perfect embellishment.  Instead of settling for a pre-made card, you can have one that’s made to order

Since custom invites are generally handmade you will need to give ample time for the design and production process. At EMD we recommend you begin the process 2-3 months before you plan on mailing the invites.  Quality work takes time as oppose to just pointing your mouse and clicking and have it delivered in 3 days. Believe me, it will be worth it :D

Inviting Details

Let’s talk invitations. That first clue  you send to your guests to announce your big event. Just like everything else you do to make sure your big day is a success, it’s the little details that your guests will remember and what brings everything together.

When it comes to your invitations, one easy way to embellish it and give it that ‘wow’ factor is by adding envelope liners. I absolutely love them which is why I add them to almost all of my creations. They can jazz up any invitation and set yours apart from the rest.  This small little detail will make a huge impact on your overall stationary suite and have your guests gasp in bewilderment before they even get a chance to get the invitation out. Like ‘Bam’ :D

How about those 'Thank you' cards. Even if you got those plain old 8-pack cards from your favorite store you can simply take one of your favorite pictures from your event, bring it to your local printing shop to make into a big sheet, then cut it up and mike liners out it. It will give the cards that personal touch that your guests would really appreciate. No doubt this little jazzy detail will make your event unforgetable.

So what do you think?

Flower On The Rocks.......Yes Please

OK so after a recent visit with my physician, I've been told that my blood pressure is a little bit elevated than I, she would like. And for me, taking any kind of pills is NOT a first option, lol, unless its pain medz. And the pain has to be pretty severe. So she recommended I try this DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) healthy eating plan. Notice how I didn't say the dreaded word "diet" lol. That's because I dont beleive in diets. Healthy eating plan sounds wayyyy better to me. And since I'm not trying to take any blood pressure pills, she didnt have to twist my arm to give this a try. Personally I can sum this eating plan up as fruits, fruits, fruits....veggie, veggie, veggie....grains, grains, grains :D.

So this eating plan has me on the hunt for some great recipes that are not boring and that me and my family will love. And I came across this blog, Divas Can Cook, owned by the lovely Monique. Lets just say that she has me falling in love with my kitchen all over again. One of her creations I came across is this post for Roses In Ice. What else can you say about it.  It looks absolutely beautiful.

This is a must have for just about ANYTHING. So simple, yet so elegant. Perfect for any intimate settings bridal/baby showers, girls night out at your place, or if you're like me any day of the week with a glass or 2 of Moscato, hellooooo : ). You can consider this a "conversation" piece or an ice-breaker, ha. But have fun with it.

Until next time, stay safe....stay blessed.

BTB: Back to Business

I'm back on the grind from pretty much going on a hiatus. Going back to school to finish my studies was truly one of the best decisions/investments I've ever made. One class down, 15 more to go, ha. And of course I am an A grade student : D..... *pattying myself on the back*

Back to business: I was excited to to receive a request from the WW, Shimika over at Intoxicating Vixen, who wanted to do something extra special for for the special ladies in her life. She asked me to create these personal cards for her Mom and her son's (My Cutie Q) Godmom for Mothers Day, or as i like to call it Superwoman Day. I mean honestly, us moms do it ALL. So here are the results. For the Godmommy, she wanted soemthing to match her personality, classy, savy and full of charm. A Tiffany Blue layered card with a tiger print black on cream fine Nepalese fine paper. Adorned with a Tiffany Blue ribbon and a Tiffany Blue bowshapped crystal embellishment.

For her mom who loves the beach, nature and has a very outgoing warm personality I chose to a tri-folded Lake Blue card, lined with a Yuzen print  black and gold Japanese paper and embellished with a gold fabric flower and a balck and gold button in its center

I really enjoyed creating these pieces knowing how personal they were. I was also delighted to know how
much they were loved as well. You can read more here at Intoxicating Vixen's blog.

I got my creative juices flowing, so I have a lot more in store. Stay tuned.....

Aphro Who??......Aphro What??

2001, that's the year I got my BA in Humanities (aka a lil bit of art, music, languages). Now, fast forward 11 years later and I've decided to take the plunge and go for my MA in Art History. I'm not an artist but I am a passionate art lover. I've looked into programs of art administration, art therapy, but my mind always came back to art history. It's like traveling the world and learning about different cultures through pictures. I'm such a visual person. Like seriously, I get magazines not to read them, but to look at the pictures.

Any whooo, one of the downfalls of this genre is that you have to do ALOT of writing. This included writing my first art exhibit review which  was on the "Aprodite and the Gods of Love" exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, right here in Bean Town (Boston). Most of the pieces displayed are from the museum's own collection and a few pieces were borrowed from Rome and Naples. Now this was a big deal because this is the first ever exhibit dedicated to the goddess of love and all her nekkidness :-).

Lol there were no cameras allowed in there so these are the only pictures I got of Aprhodite (aka Venus) from the outside. Now, I only expected to be in there for for like an hour. eeeee WRONG!!. I was in that room surveying all those 150 pieces of sculptures, coins, vases, fresco paintings and more for over 2 hours.

Sooooo 2 hours later, 2 things new I learned. First, did you know that she had a son named Eros, who we affectionately know as Cupid? Yup, the lil chubby winged boy with the bow and arrow. Nope, never knew it. But it makes sense to have the god of passion and desire be the offspring of the goddess of love, right?

This is one of his more "family friendly" pieces that were on display. Here he playfully dons Herakles (Hercules) lionskin clothes, showing that even the strongest man can fall victim to love and lust. Basically reiterating the cliché that “love conquers all”

Second, do you know where the word hermaphrodite comes from? Lol neither did I....until the exhibit. So apparently the goddess had an affair with Hermes, the messenger god, and had a son called Hermaphroditus (lol, Hermes + Aphrodite). Now he was a handsome lil fellow which caught the eye of this nymph. He was not taken to her advances, so she jumped on him and wrapped herself around him then begged the gods to let them never be apart. So what do you think the gods did? They granted her wish and fused them together. Hence a "creature of both sexes". To showcase the story, is the highlight of the exhibit named the Sleeping Hermaphrodite. Armed with security sensors and all that beeped when you got close. And trust me it was the highlight, because it had the most admirers. Gigglers and gawkers.

The piece draws you in from the back of the sleeping  reclining figure, then you walk around and find the surprise of the noticeable male genitalia (Awwwkward).........After I was finished surveying all these beautiful pieces I had to make a bee line to one of the benches in the corner becuase my calves were screaming.

After indulging in about 3 cups of coffee, I finished my 5 page review and passed it in on time. Hopefully it will be an A like I got on my first paper. An A because apparently Boston University doesn't believe in dishing out A+, so YAYYY ME!.

Getting my vixen on

So my WW was looking to change things up a bit for her E-Boutique site. Lol she's a wild one, so changing things up is what she does to keep things interesting and spicy. Her fabulous boutique is called Intoxicating Vixen (IV). That pretty much says it all. Catering to all you grown and sexy divas.

In the process of branding her self, she was looking for a new image to personfy IV. Lol I'm no artist but I like to dabble in adobe illustrator/photoshop once in while. Putting my 2 yrs of graphic design study to use. She came into work today and I surprised her with this. Let's just say that she loved it becuase she has it showboating right now on her site. So go on ladies, let your inner vixen shine and visit her store @ http://intoxicatingvixen.bigcartel.com/ and her blog @ http://intoxicatingvixen.blogspot.com/. You won't regret it.

Majestic Beasts

My WW tells me all the time that I'm such a true Leo. Now, as much as I embrace my inner feline, I have to say that I am the most laid back leo there is :-) According to zodiac this is how they "categorize" us Leos, and for the most part it is true. EXCEPT that I don't have a flair for drama and I dont like the spot light. I'm more of a behind the scenes person......

So this is what they say about us:

Leo

The Lion is considered the king of the jungle, and likewise you Leos have an air of royalty about you. Some Leos even have hair resembling the thick mane of the Lion (Seriously my hair color right now actually resembles a lion) But Lions are more than roar, for they are truly magnificent beasts. The Lioness proudly cares for the young, hunts and takes care of survival with relentless intent and ferocity, when needed. And proud are you Leo! Perhaps that's why Leo often chooses work that puts you in the center of stage or in the spotlight of appreciation (Soooooo not me)Leo are warm of spirit, eager for action and are driven by a desire to be loved for what you bring to others. Leo are a magnanimous leader and a faithful servant. Once scorned in love, however, Leo will withdraw your affections and the light, once brilliant, can go cold. (When I love, I love HARD)
You tend to live your live straightforwardly and with a flair for drama (Not this leo, I stay far from drama. Im talking about running to the other side of the street to get away, when I see it coming. Better yet, i stop it in its tracks) In fact, many Leos are attracted to the theater, the performing arts and public relations, for you truly understand the importance of putting on a good presentation (This is so freaking true). As you blaze gloriously through your life, remember to take time to acknowledge the feelings of those around you. If you forget, you could unconsciously hurt someone you love. But, if you remain aware your impact, others can benefit from your presence.

Element: Fire

Fifth House: Children

Key Planet: Sun

So why am I rambling about Leos? Because of this breath taking picture I found.

Isnt he GORGEOUS. His fiery mane is a perfect personification for this wild beast.

So what are your thought on Leos?

Vintage Love

OMG, its been wayyyyyyyy to long since I did a post. What's up with that. So this is the deal I've had a lot things going on over these past months and I didn't make this a priority. I"m sooooooo SORRY. So from now on I'm going to try something new and get a lil personal with you guys so you can see what goes on in the life of Ms K. This is a rare treat because contrary to what they say about Leos I'm not one for the spotlights. I'm more of a behind the scenes kind of girl.

So going forward not only will be sharing with you what's going on with EMD but also what's going on with the creative mind behind EMD. First I'll start off with what EMD has in the works. Valentine's Day has come on gone, but I was so inspired by old love so I decided to work on a piece that will capture the love of an old love letter. My Work-Wife (WW) loved this idea. Lol you will be hearing alot about her in these posts........... So in my head I've envisioned this beautiful young Madam during the Victorian Era sitting at her vanity table writing a love letter to her lover. And I came across these charms, on Etsy.com of course, that will be perfect as my embellishments.

How cute are these antique gold mirror and comb charms with rhinestone accents!!! Uhmmmm let's just say that I'm still WAITING to receive them...UHGGGGGGG. Biggest mistake I did, which was that I didn't check to see where they were being shipped from........ALL THE WAY FROM HONG KONG!!!!. I'm running out of patience, but I know the wait will be worth it and I know you will absolutely  love the end result. So stay tuned..................................
